Academic writing course is a critical and an essential element in the syllabus designed for especially graduating and postgraduating students particularly those who are new to the conventions of academic writing. It sets out to help these students with their written assignments which most of the time considered very demanding and challenging. Student’s worries are often raised because of their inability to adequately choose vocabulary of academic English, adhere to new conventions of style, report on others’ works, and so and so for. Hence, via this course students will explore different genres of academic writing and how these reflect different rhetorical purposes. They will practise typical academic writing tasks, including writing a basic research paper, and will learn strategies for writing more efficiently and for approaching new writing tasks. Written Expression is course design to teach English writing skills to second year students. the latter have been already introduced to the course in their first year. At this level, students will go through learning to write paragraphs to writing essays. The course is three hours each week and each session is divided into two parts: the first part is devoted to the teacher giving the lesson, and the second part of it will be devoted to students' activities. Students at this level are also encouraged to do more writings and share them with their classmates.
